A major transformation is underway in the pay TV industry, with the arrival of a variety of new services that operators can offer to their customers. Growth in the number of cable subscribers is already evident and forecasts are positive. This trend is exemplified by a number of operators in Europe and Asia, particularly in France, the UK, Spain and China. The mix of cable services which are being endorsed by subscribers, including digital television, broadband, internet access, and telephony is testimony to the diversification of business opportunities in the cable market.
NAGRA Media CABLE is a complete turn-key solution that includes the following applications and innovative systems:

The solution includes a pre-integrated services delivery platform and content management system, allowing the operator to deliver content in a convenient way.
Nagravision provides a true next-generation Service Delivery Platform (SDP) designed to perform four main roles:
On the server side, the NAGRA Media SDP is based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) which provides fully industrialised interfaces for integrating with existing service provider operational and business support systems, such as those for customer relationship management, billing, rating and network management. On the client side, the solution has been designed to be independent of the set-top-box and its middleware. It is possible to deploy the solution on set-top boxes with OpenTV or a middleware of the operator's choice.
The NAGRA Media CMS provides integrated workflow management of an operator's content. It enables operators to create and manage VOD, NPVR services, and linear TV as well as product bundles for set-top box, PC and mobile consumption. The NAGRA Media CMS is designed to perform five main roles:
The platform is capable of handling very large catalogues, with more than 20'000 assets. It includes a powerful integrated reoprting system allowing the generation of a rich variety of reports. Intuitive user interfaces offer easy data extraction, transformation and presentation to track revenues, and estimate royalty costs through "what if..." scenarios.
Cable operators expect a seamless and consistent service offering across all consumer media devices.
The Nagravision Federated Service Headend solution seamlessly integrates the Content Management System (CMS), the Service Delivery Platform (SDP) and the conditional access system (CAS) to enable the support of multiple devices such as set-top boxes, TV, PCs, mobile phones and players, and of multiple types of content including movies, ringtones, and television programmes.
The intelligent and attractive EPG application, NAGRA Media GUIDE, offers convenient access to content and is part of the unique Nagravision user experience.
Operators may require separately branded, different on-demand brand offers, available through distinct shops in order to facilitate the promotion of a group of programmes, or a whole category of content. NAGRA Media CABLE provides a true multi-shop system (or wholesale platform). Different operators can include their local content alongside the commonly-managed content of other operators, or operators may decide that each shop or label should have its own distinctly branded user interface.
Cable operators are interested in offering on-demand services that capitalise on their assets and that can compete with over-the-top content from other operators. In this environment, hybrid solutions are of increasing importance, allowing broadband operators to add complementary on-demand solutions over an IP network. This can include supporting subscriber generated content or other shared community content. Nagravision fully supports the convergence of DVB and IP, by delivering a unique solution giving operators the capability to combine both worlds and thus offer subscribers additional benefits.
Successful on-demand services result in increasing transaction rates, requiring an efficient and robust service delivery and transaction server infrastructure. NAGRA Media CABLE is based on proven and scalable database and web server technologies which scale easily as an operator's business grows.
NAGRA Media CABLE enables operators to offer subscribers unique pay TV experiences based on customisable graphic interfaces and innovative services such as video-on-demand, including catch up and start over functionality. These solutions provide an opportunity to increase the average revenue per subscriber, whilst utilising a cost effective service delivery platform and set of applications.
The intelligent and attractive electronic programme guide (EPG) application, NAGRA Media GUIDE, offers convenient access to content and is part of the unique Nagravision user experience.
Designed to guide subscribers within the explosive growth in numbers of digital TV programmes, the interactive guide makes it easy for viewers to consult, search and find what they want to watch, and then the guide helps viewers quickly choose how and when they want to watch that content.
NAGRA Media GUIDE is designed to perform six main roles and includes an application for each of them:
On demand content is now adding to the growing number of programmes available. To avoid subscriber frustration, it is important for operators to be able to promote content through personalised recommendations. This is done by suggesting relevant content to viewers on the basis of their previous choices, content which it is therefore likely they will enjoy.
A great entertainment experience is key to driving revenue and reducing churn. Recommendations can be made on subscriber request, or can be triggered proactively by the operator. In addition, solutions can also include relevant advertising, by matching a subscriber's choices and profile with proposed goods and services. This helps to maintain subscriber satisfaction at a higher level, ensuring higher return on investment, and also promoting a closer, stronger relationship between the operator and their subscribers.
In this flat-screen digital era, viewers usually have several TV sets at home and thus multiple consumption points, such as the living room, bedroom and kitchen. Viewers want to be able to enjoy recorded content at all of these different places. Nagravision's target is to allow subscribers to use their DVR capabilities across the set-top boxes and PCs in their homes. Therefore content protection are being extended to take into account this new model, and allow for the generation of additional revenues for operators by leveraging a single DVR and home networking.
Nagravision has pre-integrated its systems with leading headend and video server vendors to provide a comprehensive set of on-demand solutions. Operators are free to operate the video servers of their choice, and can even make use of a farm of different makes or models of servers, provided that they are properly integrated. Nagravision does not lock the operator into a specific vendor.
Nagravision understands service provider's needs for choices between multiple set-top box models (from a basic zapper to high-end DVR) and multiple vendors or brands. The company is actively working with more than 30 leading vendors around the world. Those vendors validate the conditional access client on their set-top boxes with the support of Nagravision's five set-top box integration centres.
