Broadband service providers are today rapidly launching IPTV services as part of a full triple or quadruple play offering. Nagravision understands the key challenges of deploying IPTV services and provides a true next-generation IPTV solution enabling broadband providers to be in full control of their evolving service innovations.
Available today and ready to be deployed, the Nagravision end-to-end IPTV solution consists of:
Service providers need to be in full control of the end user experience to differentiate their service offerings in an increasingly competitive IPTV market. Minor changes are not good enough! True customizability is required as, for example, EPGs need to be different on a regional basis and a one-size-fits-all” approach will not work. The IPTV solution’s service delivery platform and set of applications allow operators to customize, and extend, in a cost-effective manner, the TV user interface and underlying application logic.
The availability of cost effective MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 set-top boxes, with or without DVR, is a key success factor for service providers wanting to attract new subscribers, retain existing ones, and fend off competition. Nagravision is actively working with more than 30 different set-top box vendors, each providing a range of devices from basic zappers to high-end DVR boxes.
Broadband service providers, when adding video to existing voice and data services, expect a seamless and consistent service offering across all consumer media devices. Nagravision’s content management system, service delivery platform and CAS/DRM support multiple devices (TV, PC and Mobile) as well as multiple types of content (movies, ringtones, etc.) from the same centralized headend.
In some cases, broadband service providers are grouping together in order to reduce the infrastructure costs of building a complete digital TV platform. The Nagravision solution provides a true multi- operator system (wholesale platform). Different operators can include their local content complementing the common content and each operator can retain their own branded user interface.
With the convergence of DVB and IP as a business imperative in many instances, Nagravision delivers a solution allowing operators to combine both worlds. The Nagravision solution minimizes the overall cost with a design of single server that simultaneously suits hybrid broadcast and broadband networks and set-top boxes.
Successful IPTV services will result in increased transaction rates, requiring an efficient and robust service delivery and license server infrastructure. The Nagravision solution is based on proven and scalable database and web server technologies which can easily be scaled as the business grows.
The end-to-end solution has been pre-integrated, intensively tested and successfully deployed at multiple locations. It follows a solution-driven roadmap providing seamless upgrades to new features and functionality. By selecting Nagravision, broadband operators will drastically reduce the time to market and costs associated with launching innovative video services across multiple subscriber devices.
The Kudelski Group, including Nagravision, Quative and Lysis, is a truly independent organization, not affiliate to any other media group. Thanks to our worldwide presence and global experience, we are the ideal partner for broadband service providers.
Nagravision’s end-to-end IPTV solution, available today and ready for deployment, supports a full range of innovative services for subscribers including:
NagraGuide provides a powerful suite of interactive applications designed with HD and SD user interfaces. It is designed to guide subscribers through the explosive growth in digital TV programs. The guide makes it easy to find programs to watch and then quickly helps choose how and when to watch them. NagraGuide provides a number of applications:
The next-generation Quative Service Delivery Platform performs four main roles:
On the server side, the Quative SDP is based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) which provides fully industrialized interfaces for integrating with existing service provider operational and business support systems, such as those for customer relationship management, billing, rating and network management.
On the client side, the platform is based on a truly open client environment with well-defined interfaces. The key advantage is that different middleware (browser, SVG, Java, Flash, etc.) can be supported in a seamless way without changing the applications.
The Lysis Content Management System provides integrated workflow management of the content. It enables service operators to create and manage linear TV channels, and VOD services as well as product bundles for set-top boxes, PCs and mobile devices. It is designed to perform five main roles:
The platform is capable of handling very large catalogues with more than 20’000 assets. It includes a powerful integrated reporting system allowing the generation of a rich variety of reports. Intuitive user interfaces offer easy data extraction, transformation and presentation to track revenues, estimate or simulate royalty costs through « what if… » scenarios.
The Nagravision Cardless Conditional Access System (CAS) and Digital Rights Management (DRM) is based on a combination of downloadable client software with MPEG chipset security features. It is fully compliant with the MPAA requirements for a hardware 'root of trust'. The solution can be renewed via secure software downloads over the network. The Merdan Group has audited the Nagravision Cardless CAS/DRM and judged it the most secure system from conditional access vendors. Additionally, Cardless CAS is the only product capable of supporting hybrid DVB + IP networks with a single headend and a single CA client in end-user devices.
Operators can take advantage of pre-selected equipment for better pricing and to minimize risk. Other 3rd party equipment can also be delivered at the customer’s request. In general, when Nagravision delivers 3rd party equipment, it takes full responsibility for providing a complete and comprehensive IPTV headend solution.
Nagravision understands that providing a variety of set-top-box models (from basic zappers to high-end DVRs) and multiple vendors/brands is a key advantage for Nagravision customers. To meet those needs, the company is actively working with more than 30 leading vendors around the world, which validate the Nagravision conditional access client at five integration centers located in Germany, the US, Switzerland, France and China.
